Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel symptoms include sharp pains in the hand, aching, numbness, and burning and tingling that goes into the hand. Traditional thought is that Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is caused by pressure on the median nerve, in the carpal tunnel, as it goes into the wrist. However, the most common cause of carpal tunnel syndrome is a median nerve entrapment. The nerve can be stuck anywhere in the neck, armpit, or forearm. The median nerve provides the sensation to the thumb, index, and middle finger. It also provides the signal to bend our thumbs and fingers.

Nerve Entrapment

Similar, to Carpal Tunnel symptoms, nerve entrapments can cause weakness aching, numbness, burning, and tingling down the arm, into the forearm, and into the hand and fingers.

The radial nerve provides sensation to the back of the hand and provides the signal to straighten our fingers and wrist. The ulnar nerve gives sensation to the pinky and ring finger and provides us with dexterity to pick small things up. The ulnar nerve and radial nerve can become stuck to the muscles in the arm or forearm due to adhesion. Nerve entrapments can cause weakness aching, numbness, burning, and tingling down the arm, into the forearm, and into the hand and fingers.


This type of arthritis occurs when the cartilage that cushions the ends of your bones deteriorates over time.  Most common causes are adhesion in the forearm muscles and wrist, or repetitive motions.

Repetitive Stress

Any activity that involves repetitive wrist motion such as hammering, golfing, tennis, weightlifting, etc.

Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis) & Golfer’s Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis)

With repetitive use, adhesion will form in the muscles that flex and extend the forearm. These forearm muscles attach to both the inside and outside of the elbow, causing what is classically labeled as “Tennis Elbow” or “Golfer’s Elbow”. Adhesion in the forearm muscles causes the tendons to become overused. This will create symptoms at the elbow. However, the problem is usually in the forearm.
