Some exercises will increase your range of motion in your feet to improve your flexibility and reduce pain.

Mobility Exercises

 

1. Toe Raise, Point, & Curl

To do this exercise:

  • Sit in a chair, feet flat on the floor
  • Keep your toes on the floor
  • Raise your heels
  • Hold at the top for 5 seconds, lower
  • Now, raise your heel, point your toes
  • Hold at the top for 5 seconds, lower
  • Now, raise your heel, curl your toes inward
  • Hold at the top for 5 seconds, lower
  • Repeat cycle 10 times

 

2. Big Toe Stretch

To do this exercise:

  • Sit in a chair, feet flat on the floor
  • Put your right foot on your left thigh
  • Use your fingers to stretch your big toe up, down, and side to side
  • Repeat 10 times, then switch feet

 

Strengthening Exercises

 

3. Toe Splay

To do this exercise:

  • Sit in a chair, feet flat on the floor
  • Spread your toes, hold for 5 seconds, relax
  • Repeat 10 times

 

4. Toe Curls

To do this exercise:

  • Sit in a chair, feet flat on the floor
  • Lay a hand towel on the floor in front of you
  • Try to gather the towel up by squeezing your toes on it
  • Repeat this 5 times, switch and do the opposite side

 

5. Marble Pickup

To do this exercise:

  • Sit in a chair, feet flat on the floor
  • Place two bowls in front of you on the ground - one empty, the other with 20 marbles in it
  • Use your toes to pick up and move the marbles from one bowl to the other
  • Repeat for the other foot
